We had 3 members and a guest ( Ken
Ganancial ) fishing the first
tournament of the year on Lake
Roosevelt. It was
in the 40's for the 5:20
Saturday blast off with moderate wind
conditions on Saturday. Sunday
saw 46 degrees with mild winds for
the blast off and around 70 degrees
for the 1:00 pm Weigh In.
Water temperatures were 50 -51 in
the main lake with the mid to upper
50's in a few coves. First day
leader Brian Walters with 14.52
pounds had a family illness on
Sunday and had to leave after only a
few hours fishing. Brian fished the
Wynhoff Cove area on Saturday.
He reported catching his fish on
tubes and deep diving crank baits.
Tom Melowitz fished with Ken
Ganancial and amazingly had the
identical weight for the two days.
Ken got the nod with a bigger fish
than Tom's. They fished the
San Poil on Saturday catching fish
on tubes and Swim Baits and moved to
Swawilla Basin in the afternoon
where Ken did well on Swim Baits.
They fished Swawilla Basin on Sunday
where they struggled until they ran
to the Spring Canyon area for the
last hour. They both had only
three fish with a hour to go but
caught several fish in the last
hour. Sunday fishing was
extremely difficult. Another
great spring fishing day on Lake
Roosevelt!
The next club tournament is the
Jamboree on
Banks Lake.
