Tom with 2 Saturday Fish |
|
Bill with a 2.43 Saturday Smallie |
The first club tournament of 2011 was 3 days after Roosevelt
became fishable due to low water levels. Roosevelt was at
1227 feet on Saturday with the Spring Canyon launch usable with
at least 1222 feet of water. The weather prior to the
tournament had been in the upper 70's with water temperatures
reaching the mid to upper fifties. The fish were
still pre spawn but with the warm weather they were quickly
moving shallow. The Saturday blast off was at 5:15 am with
a mild wind and a slightly overcast sky with temperatures in the
lower sixties. A cold front came through at 6:30 am and by
weigh on Saturday the air temperature was in the 50's. By
Sunday the main lake on Roosevelt was back down to 49 degrees. The
overcast sky and winds prevailed throughout the remainder of the
tournament. Tom said he fished wind blown points between
Spring Canyon and Plum Point with jerk baits, using a Pointer in Aurora Blue
and a trout colored X-Rap and caught 49 fish on Saturday and 35
fish on Sunday. On both days the jerk bait bite died out
in the afternoon. Bill was forced to fish near the launch
because Dana siphoned his gas before leaving for California.
Bill was able to fish normally on Sunday with gas in his tank.
He said he caught a lot of fish on Saturday with a Sniper J-Fac
craw in green with copper flake. On Sunday a crawdad crank
bait was the ticket for him. |
