Dana with the Big Fish - 3.46 Pounds |
The last club tournament of 2011 was on Lake Roosevelt.
The Triathlon normally held on Banks Lake was held at Spring
Canyon on Roosevelt on Saturday so we launched out of Crescent
Bay on Saturday and Spring Canyon on Sunday. The water was about
ten feet below full pool. Water
temperatures ranged from the mid to high sixties. We
had overcast skies both days with just a bit of rain on Sunday.
The wind ranged from 5 to 15 miles per hour. Saturday
morning was a bit cold with the thermometer reading 44 degrees
and a wind of 10 MPH. That was a big shock after
temperatures in the 90's just a few days before the tournament.
The fish were not aggressive either day so the fishing was a
notch below what it should have been for a mid September
tournament.
Dana, fishing Swawilla Basin and Plum Point, caught 20
fish on Saturday switching between a rattle trap and a poper,
including the big fish of 3.46 pounds. He caught only 5
fish of 20 bites on Sunday with the same technique. His
5th fish came with only 30 minutes left in the tournament.
Tom fished the San Poil both days using tubes and football head
jigs with Yamamoto Hula Grubs. He caught 20+ keepers on
Saturday and 10 keepers on Sunday but couldn't find any number
of quality fish.
Bill was late for the weigh in on Sunday. He thought that
Sunday hours ran until 3:00 pm. The tournament ended
at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
